Host Your Own School And Save Valuable Training Dollars!

The NRA Law Enforcement Instructor Development School's purpose is to increase each students' individual firearm instructor skills. The curriculum is designed to assist students in developing, preparing, and conducting safe, effective, reality-based and agency-related law enforcement firearm training and programs for the firearm(s) shown. Instruction will be presented and practical exercises conducted to help students professionally present both classroom and range training. In addition, the school will enhance each students' law enforcement firearm knowledge and handling skills. These are NOT basic operator or shooting schools. All classes and range exercises will be conducted at the instructor level and students will be expected to conduct many of the range exercises. Students are instructed using the NRA's proven "supermarket" methodology that exposes them to a wide variety of techniques, methods and philosophies. This method allows students to choose programs that will best serve their agency's needs.

These schools are intended for public and private law enforcement officers and military personnel.

Each of our Instructor Development Schools consist of 44 contact hours during a five-day school. Contact hours are actual instructional times in the classroom and on the range. It does not include travel times between the motel and training site, break times, meal times, and range set-up or clean-up. Classes will be conducted from 0730 hours to approximately 1800 hours Monday through Friday, plus one late night to accommodate reduced-light shooting. One hundred percent attendance is MANDATORY for successful school completion. The school should be considered a full-time endeavor. It is unreasonable to expect successful completion if engaged in any additional activities (work/duty/night school) during the school week. Students must also demonstrate teaching and shooting proficiency and pass a written examination. The following schools are designed to be "stand alone" instructor development schools and include: Handgun/Shotgun, Handgun Only (Pistol/Revolver), Tactical Shotgun, Patrol Rifle and Select-Fire. Students attending the Precision Rifle Instructor School must have already attended a General Instructor course. The Tactical Shooting Instructor school requires that a student already possess a firearm instructor certification in either the handgun or the long-gun that the student will be bringing to the school and provide some documentation as to having attended a minimum of an operator level school in the other firearm. (For instance, you may be a certified handgun instructor and have attended a patrol rifle operator school. Or you may be a certified shotgun instructor and provide documentation that you've attended a basic handgun skills course).

Please assemble and submit a request package that contains:

1. A Completed Host Request Form: This form may be downloaded in PDF format to be printed out by clicking here. Please select a date six to nine months out from the time of submitting this form to allow for sufficient advertising time.
2. Location Maps And Information: Please include area sketch maps indicating the location of classroom, range, suggested hotels and directions from major highways.

• Tuition for all Instructor Development Schools is $685 per student, payable to the NRA. The host may charge a minimal ($20-$50) "range fee" to cover cardboard, staples, coffee, donuts, and other out of pocket expenses, which is NOT included in the $645 tuition payment, and must be paid directly to the host by the students.
• Approximately three weeks prior to the start date, a school may be cancelled at the discretion of the NRA LE Division if an insufficient number of students have registered and paid for the school.

Hosting agencies may wish to consider a "closed" school, which is not advertised to other agencies. The hosting agency provides all of the students. The NRA will conduct closed instructor schools, for any number of students up to 20, at a cost of $11,900. Closed schools can normally be scheduled with much less lead time. Closed school requests requiring a signed contract must be received no later than three weeks before the start of the school.

Most open enrollment Instructor Development Schools are limited to 20 to 24 students (occasionally no more than 30 students if the facility allows), which includes one complementary tuition slot that the host receives for every nine paid students. A minimum number of students is required for a school to be conducted.

Please confirm the school dates before starting to make arrangements for the school. Our schools and our training staff are scheduled well in advance (usually six to nine months). Requested school dates cannot be confirmed until all necessary paperwork is received by the Law Enforcement Activities Division.

When we receive your completed request package, we will incorporate your maps, hotel, range, and classroom information, and mail you back a master copy of the student information packet for you to copy and use. All prospective students must receive a complete student packet. You may add to this packet if you wish.

• Register students: Register students for the school on receipt of a registration form and tuition payment. Provide school confirmation to these students. Maintain an accurate count of paid students.
• Provide school listings in several periodicals and our website: Advertise the training dates and the host's name and agency address.
• Provide the professional training staff.
• Provide student information packet to prospective students requesting information and registration.
• Provide student handout materials and targets.
• Provide school completion certificates: These certificates are provided for the hosting agency.

• Provide a liaison to be present throughout the school and be responsible for meeting the requirements listed below, plus any other reasonable requests made by the NRA Staff. The coordinator will serve as the local contact point for students and the NRA Staff prior to and during the school. The coordinator will meet with the NRA Staff during the weekend prior to the school to set up the classroom and range facilities.
• Advertise through teletype and/or other means, and send school announcements to State POST, law enforcement agencies, and other qualified students informing them of the school.
• Provide information packet to any student who inquires about the school. (Master will be provided by NRA.) Provide area maps marking locations of hotels, classroom and range.
• Receive training material shipments: Securely store and confirm receipt with the NRA of packages of training materials shipped to the host. Arrange for all of this material to be available for classroom and range setup during the weekend before the school.
• Ship training materials back to the NRA: This shipment will usually consist of one or two large, heavy boxes.
• Type school completion certificates and class roster: Type provided school completion certificates and type a class roster. Copy the certificates and the class roster (one for each student and the NRA training team).
